What first drew you to science, fisheries, or the ocean?

My love for the water since a little girl, first around small rivers and creeks, but then to the remote, deep blue to the oceanic environments

What part of your work makes you feel proud or hopeful?

Many, for instance coral reefs and associated fishes, queen conch, and spiny lobster. But also the power of doing and understanding the usefulness of maps.

What are some of the most significant challenges women or girls face in science in your context?

Not always being heard, the need to proper communicate the message to multiples audiences, and make them believe in the cause.

What support, opportunities, or conditions have helped you succeed?

Helping in developing projects, participating in training and research. Contribute to support fishers initiatives.

What is one way organizations like GCFI could help women and girls feel more welcome, supported, or visible in fisheries and marine science?

Be able to translate science into management and education. Congregating efforts for greater efficiencies. Supporting the GCFI family!!!

What message would you share with girls considering a career in science or fisheries, especially those who may doubt they belong?

Recognize the importance of coordination to move forward, learn how to become more inclusive, or how to share resources, and support each other. The need to use proper languages is key to success.
