Marine Debris: Any man-made material including lumber, that is discarded, lost, or abandoned in the marine environment.

Abandoned Fishing Gear: Fishing gear left by the owner without the intention of continuing to use the gear.

Lost Fishing Gear: fishing gear or fishing materials that are accidently lost.

Discarded Fishing Gear: fishing gear or materials intentionally thrown away at sea.

ALDFG: Abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear.

Ghost Fishing: abandoned, lost, or discarded fishing gear that continues to catch fish or other marine life.
