The 59th annual Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute conference will be held from 6 Nov 2006 through 11 November 2006 at the Princess Hotel and Casino in Belize City, Belize.

Belize City is the center for many marine activities in the MesoAmerican Reef system. The barrier reef is wordld-renowned. Following the 56th GCFI, the Belizean Government designated a number of MPAs designed to protect the well-docum,ented fish spawning aggregations.
 
 
d   In addition to the core sessions, there will be three special sessions at the conference. The first session will be a half day on Monday, 6 November and is entitled: Historical Perspectives for Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries [Esp].

The second special session will be an all-day symposium on Tue 7 November and is entitled:Large Pelagic Fishes in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico: Current Status and Integrated Management [Esp].

On Friday and Saturday, 10 and 11 November there will be a special 2-day symposium entitled: Caribbean Connectivity.
