The 59th annual Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries Institute conference will be held from 6 Nov 2006 through 11 November 2006 at the Princess Hotel and Casino in Belize City, Belize. |

Belize City is the center for many marine activities in the MesoAmerican Reef system. The barrier reef is wordld-renowned. Following the 56th GCFI, the Belizean Government designated a number of MPAs designed to protect the well-docum,ented fish spawning aggregations. |

In addition to the core sessions, there will be three special sessions at the conference. The first session will be a half day on Monday, 6 November and is entitled: Historical Perspectives for Gulf and Caribbean Fisheries [Esp]. The second special session will be an all-day symposium on Tue 7 November and is entitled:Large Pelagic Fishes in the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico: Current Status and Integrated Management [Esp]. On Friday and Saturday, 10 and 11 November there will be a special 2-day symposium entitled: Caribbean Connectivity. |
